An inner ring for a spiral wound gasket (SWG) is an important part of the sealing mechanism. It increases the resilience and axial rigidity of the gasket and prevents it from over-compressing in high-pressure service. It also helps prevent the build-up of process fluid in the annular space, minimizes erosion, and promotes tightness.

Inner rings are fabricated according to the customer's specifications. They are usually made from carbon steel or monel. They can also be made from other metals, depending on the conditions of service. They can also be fabricated according to the diameter and length of the flange. If the inner ring is fabricated according to the customer's specifications, it will provide additional radial support to the outer portion of the spiral wound.
